Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
