Person confesses to sexual offenses against young males at summer camp
An individual who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys aged between nine and ten.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer program which he ran.
The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor said objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his worries.
She said the man went on to play the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
Mrs Prior said the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.
She said the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
